About Us...
Wise Women Foundation is a non-profit project of Essence Institute, dedicated to advancing women in the Healing-Arts & related Mind~Body~Spirit businesses/organizations. We welcome women with personal and professional interests in mind, body, spirit wellness.
Our network, The Wise Women Web, is comprised of healing-arts practitioners, businesses and organizations that offer classes, products and services that support health and well-being. Professionals and businesses can join the network for $99/year and take advantage of client referrals, discounted programs, business resources and networking opportunities.
The organization provides events that celebrate women in our community, nurture their passions and interests in healing, and support their continued personal and professional development. Our programs include Wise Women Talk! internet radio program, Women's Retreats, and Leadership Summits, Marketing programs and more.

The Inspiration...
I received the inspiration for the Wise Women Foundation on a sunny September 16, 2002, driving home from my chiropractor's appointment. It came in a whole piece-a vision of a network of women in the healing arts that supported each other's growth by seeking each other out for our healing services and products. We could provide a foundation from which women in our community could experience personal and professional growth through connecting, sharing and inspiring each other.
I started talking about this idea with the wise women in my life-my mother, my co-workers, my friends; and sometimes perfect strangers who showed up with bits of wisdom or a supportive gesture. And so the idea grew in a good way...

About the Founder...
Founding Director, Shawn "Kya" Supers is a community activist whose vision is to create a sustainable way of life from which all people can live from their wisdom. Her interest in community action and organization began at age 12 when she began her first non-profit organization in her home-town of New Philadelphia, OH.
After receiving a degree in interpersonal communications from Bowling Green State University, she went on to pursue her marketing consulting career with clients including The Discovery Channel, Capital University of Integrative Medicine and Pathways Magazine. As Co-Chair of the 2006 Montgomery County Women's Fair, she continued to serve as a bridge connecting and empowering women.
Kya relocated to Washington, DC in 2002 and shortly thereafter established the Wise Women Foundation. Through the organization she developed the Wise Women Web, a network of healing-arts professionals; and coordinates and facilitates networking programs, marketing development programs, Leadership Summits, Women's Retreats and produces the Wise Women FestivALL. Her personal and professional goals are to provide women and their businesses every opportunity to connect with their target audience, educate and empower themselves, and develop healthy community growth.
Why Women?
Throughout history and around the world, women have been the nurturers and caregivers of the families, tribes and communities to which they belong. This organization seeks to provide a foundation through which women are celebrated, honored and encouraged to develop their healing gifts. We are biologically equipped (see our Spring 2004 Wise Women Voice) to provide healing, in turn it provides healing for ourselves.
We celebrate and appreciate men in our communities as well, with their support our lives are enriched.
